Reggia of Venaria
UNESCO site: The magnificent Reggia, one of the Royal Residences which overlooks Piazza della Repubblica 4 in Venaria Reale, has been recently restored and reopened in 2007. The project for its restoration was supported by the European Union and undertaken by the Ministry of culture of the Region of Piedmont. This project was the biggest construction site of Europe in the field of cultural heritage and it restored the baroque magnificence of the Reggia that inspired Carlo Emanuele II, Duke of Savoy for its construction in the mid-17th Century. Today, the Royal Residence is a symbol of modernity and culture again. Since its opening the Venaria Reale has been ranked among the first five most visited cultural sites in Italy. It was designed to be the new court of contemporary loisir in tune with the most representative international institutions, and it is a production centre and cultural resort that offers to the Italian and international general public the pleasures of art, history and architecture in an extraordinary landscape.
